Recently, students at Conestoga Valley High School raised over $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Money was collected in fourth block classes Tuesday, December 11 through Thursday, December 13. Each class was competing to see which class could raise the most money. The goal was to raise enough for a little boy, Andreas (from Lancaster), to go to Disney World, a wish that cost $4,000. “I am simply amazed at the results of this fund raising effort. I want to thank you all so much for your support,” said Liza Kuhn, the National Honors Society advisor who led the fund raiser. Students far exceeded the $4,000 goal by raising $10,800, enough to fund three wishes. The classrooms of Susan Grammer, Nicole Reinking, and Dana Keares raised the most money, and will receive a pizza party with Santa on Friday, December 21. “It was great to see teachers and kids working together so enthusiastically,” commented Kuhn. Although students were initially motivated by the contest, in the end they were just happy to help up. “It feels amazing to win, but what really matters is that the little boy will be able to go to Disney World,” said Rosalba Finazzo ’08, a student in Reinking’s fourth block class. Another student from Reinking’s class, Andrea Brooks ’08, commented, “We did a great job for such a good charity. That’s all that matters.” Justin Zimmerman ’09, a student in Judy Lefever’s fourth block class, was disappointed with his class, which was doing well at the beginning of the competition, when they did not win. “We got cheated,” Zimmerman joked, “but it’s okay. It was for a good cause.”
