What is NIE?

newspaper teacherNewspaper in Education (NIE) provides locals schools with resources to help promote youth readership. Upon request, NIE provides teachers with lesson plans, free newspapers, and other educational services that help promote reading in Lancaster County. Newspapers act as textbooks that are updated daily and provide a wealth of knowledge for students and teachers alike.

Lancaster Newspapers, Inc.'s NIE program sponsors numerous educational competitions and contests throughout the year. Contests and competitions include: International Literacy Day, Intelligencer Journal Spelling Bee (a Scripps affiliate), NIE Week (which includes Design an Ad Competition, Journalism Contests, and Photojournalism Contests), Sunday News Student Press Awards, Lancaster Lebanon Quiz Bowl League coverage sponsored by the New Era, and more. LNP NIE is affiliated at both the state and national level.

By local schools participating in the many events sponsored by NIE, student achievements are showcased. Participation allows for students to apply knowledge, meet academic standards, use reasoning skills and gain public recognition.
