Competition Guidelines:The holiday greeting card contest is open to students in grades 1-12. Students are encouraged to create and enter their original greeting card designs. The theme is “A Salute to Our Local Troops”. Cards should have a seasonal motif and an appropriate message to local troops on the inside. Upon completion of the contest, greeting cards will be shared with local troops. ATTENTION TEACHERS: This is a great classroom project that encourages student creativity. In 2008, over 1000 cards (with student messages) reached our troops serving abroad during the holiday season.

Winners are chosen in each of four competition levels:

Traditional Art:

Grades 1, 2

Grades 3, 4, 5

Grades 6, 7, 8

Computer Generated Art:

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Judging will be on the basis of originality of idea and appropriate use of materials. Attractiveness, neatness, and workmanship will be taken into consideration by judges. The inside message is NOT part of the judging process but is a requirement as the cards will be shared with local troops. Judges’ decisions are final. Prizes are given to the top three cards in each competition level. Contest winners will be announced by the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal in December.
